Competition Preparation Week 36/2024: 33 Days to Go…

Writer's picture: Judy LangerJudy Langer

Only 33 days to go until my next competition, Steel on Fire in Windeck. So far, my preparations are going quite well, but at the same time, they feel a bit chaotic. Sometimes I wonder if my last prep felt this way too, but back then, I didn’t keep a detailed journal. Now, with everything written down, I can track my progress and setbacks, which helps me stay on top of things.

On Tuesday, I ran through my Pole Single Advanced choreography in front of my students. And let me tell you – I highly recommend doing this! You perform with about 64,548 times more energy when you have an audience compared to practicing alone! 😄

The technical part of the routine went really well. Of course, there’s still some fine-tuning needed, especially with the performance aspect, but I’m super happy with how things are coming along. I’ll need to tweak the song a bit, but it’s definitely working for my routine.

I'm also working on my Chair Dance Choreography at the moment. My coach and I completely reworked it, and now I have a version that I really like. However, I’m still missing the right song and some props to tie everything together. That’s my next step!

Since I trained hard from Monday to Thursday last week, I suddenly developed strong wrist pain – and not during training, but afterward. Normally, my wrists give me some warning signs, and I stop immediately. But this time, the pain came overnight and was much worse than I’ve ever experienced before. First, it was my shoulders, and now my wrist... Great, just great! 🙄

Despite the wrist issue, I still went to training with my duo partner on Saturday. She wasn’t having the best day either, so we decided to focus on technique, facial expressions, gestures, and our floorwork. And let me tell you… it’s going to be amazing! We are so in sync, and I just love our floor section. Every time we train, I get excited about stepping on stage and starting the routine.

Nutrition and Recovery

As for my nutrition, things are going really well. I’m following the 18/6 fasting method with about 130g of protein and 1,800 kcal per day. On weekends, I tend to relax a bit and eat more – my inner lazy side wins sometimes, but that’s okay. It’s important not to restrict yourself too much. Despite indulging here and there, I’m finding it easier to stay defined and feeling great in my body right now.

Recovery could be better, though. My sleep has been pretty restless, as Julian has been sick for the past week and still is. This has affected my rest, but I’m always working on improving it.

I’m excited for the week ahead and have set clear goals: Props, Mental Training, and Wrist Recovery. Starting next week, I’ll also share more detailed numbers, data, and progress updates.

Stay tuned for more updates! 💫
