Competition update - 48 days to go

Writer: Judy LangerJudy Langer

After a somewhat challenging phase, I have finally found my drive again! 🥰 My body needed some time after Africa to adjust to the lower temperatures, the predominantly sedentary work routine, and the not-so-high-quality food. But now I can feel my energy returning, and that makes me really, really happy. This change means a lot to me because, in the past few weeks, I felt like I was falling behind in my training routine. I knew it would come back, and I just had to give myself time – but yes, that’s often easier said than done. Now, however, I trust that I am step by step bringing myself back to my usual level.

This week, I went through my competition choreography for Aerial Amity Art on multiple days. My endurance is now at a good level, allowing me to focus more on perfecting my movements. My main goal for this competition is to achieve at least the same score as last year. Precision in every single movement is especially important to me. My big goal for Aerial Amity Art is to present my choreography as cleanly and confidently as I did last year. Back then, I scored 9.5 out of 10 points in cleanliness and 9 out of 10 points in stage presence. Of course, I want to achieve these scores again – and with the ambition to surpass my total score of 280 points!

That’s why I pay close attention to my body tension, especially knee engagement and foot extension in every transition. I repeat my choreographies as often as possible to gain absolute confidence in every movement and elevate my performance to an even higher level.

Besides training, there are also some organizational tasks to handle. My music still needs to be edited so that I can train independently. For example, in today’s training session, I wasn’t able to run through my entire competition choreography with music because my track hasn’t been cut yet and isn’t saved on a USB stick. Without someone pressing the play button, it’s unfortunately not possible to do it alone. 🙈 That’s something I’ll tackle this weekend to ensure I can train efficiently on my own. So far, someone always has to manually start my music because my choreography begins at the pole. Starting next week, I will also begin training with my dance partner so that we can go through the entire choreography smoothly and cleanly.

Today, my main focus was on my orientation towards the audience. My static combo includes a small transition where I don’t yet feel completely secure. I’m not always perfectly aligned with the audience, which is why I intensely practiced this area. I will continue to work on this in the upcoming training sessions. Additionally, I made a small adjustment—nothing major, just a fine optimization.

My body is slowly getting back into its natural rhythm. My flexibility and alignment are at a good level. However, I’ve noticed that I’m eating too little – especially my protein intake needs to increase to optimally nourish my muscles.

My sleep quality could also be better: my REM sleep phases are great, but my deep sleep could still improve. However, I’m confident that this will regulate itself as I return to a stable routine. I make sure to support my sleep with a solid evening routine – including meditation, stretching exercises, and consciously avoiding electronic devices before bed.

I am very excited to see how my training progresses! The past few weeks have been challenging, but I can feel myself getting back into my flow. It’s a wonderful feeling to make progress and be on track again. I just love pole dance so much, and I look forward to continuing to share my journey with you!

I know there are moments when it’s hard to stay motivated. But in those exact moments, I remind myself why I love this sport so much. Every small progress step brings me closer to my goal, and that’s exactly what gives me the strength to keep going.

Stay tuned – there will be more updates on my competition choreography and my progress soon! ♥️
