The trip to Argentina for my pole competition was very significant for me. To be optimally prepared, I booked the coaching package from Polefulness. Pole Training w/ Larissa
Larissa is responsible for pole training at Polefulness, and during our training session, I told her that I didn’t have a suitable floor routine yet. In our first 60-minute session, we focused exclusively on developing my floor work. Larissa demonstrated moves that I could practice and excel in. It was an intense and effective session that significantly improved my floor movements.
My second pole training session took place after my choreography evaluation. We went through each transition in detail, addressing areas that needed improvement. Larissa’s constructive feedback and targeted exercises were incredibly helpful in making my choreography smoother and more expressive.
Mentaltraining w/ Christina
Christina is a psychologist and handles mental training at Polefulness. I had two sessions with her, each focusing on different aspects:
visualization techniques
In the first session, we focused on visualization techniques. At that time, I had included a backflip in my choreography that was causing me significant trouble. A week before the session, I had also injured my big toe and was on a forced sports break. Together with Christina, I developed visualization techniques where I meticulously went through the movements and became aware of which muscles were engaged and when. This was a real game-changer for me, as it made me much more aware of what my body was capable of. Even without physical practice, the muscles retain the movement patterns stored in the mind.
Support in Argentina
The second mental training session took place in Argentina. My competition preparation was going well, and I had no major concerns regarding pole and self-doubt. However, I was heavily burdened by a personal issue within my family and social circle. Christina took the time to listen and help me let go of the problem. This support was immensely valuable and highlighted the importance of recognizing and addressing mental blockages.
Choreography Evaluation
Six weeks before the championship, I received a video evaluation of my choreography from Polefulness. I submitted a video of myself in my competition costume, with makeup, and a full run-through, and they assessed it according to competition guidelines. I received detailed feedback on every move. This expert evaluation boosted my confidence through the positive feedback and allowed me to make small improvements. Some of the points from the evaluation were very useful, and I wanted to implement them. However, the time was indeed too short to fully integrate these changes into my routine. Although I made some adjustments, my nerves led me to revert to my old movements on stage. Hahaha, but that's just how it goes. Nonetheless, I gained valuable feedback and insights for my future competitions from the evaluation.
Conclusion: A Valuable Coaching Experience
The competition coaching from Polefulness was incredibly helpful in my preparation and in the current phase of my life. I have always been strong when it comes to performing in front of an audience. However, with their support, I was able to overcome uncertainties in my floor work and other mental blockages, or at least manage them temporarily, so I could focus on my goal. Discussing these blockages and receiving objective support were crucial for my success.
